About Alex.

Alex Siddons is a Melbourne based Writer, Director and Producer. He is a self-taught filmmaker who has been telling stories since the dawn of his existence most notably however through his role as Head Producer at PLGRM Media and through his directorial debut feature The Art of Incarceration that premiered at GCFF & BOFA and will be released via NETFLIX July 3, 2022.

Alex began creating The Art of Incarceration alongside his close friend and collaborator - Indigenous artist Robby Wirramanda. In making the film Alex was granted unprecedented access to Fulham Correctional and began production within the Indigenous unit of the prison- documenting the artist’s progression as they built toward the annual “Confined ‘’ art exhibition [facilitated by not-for-profit The Torch.

On the inside many incredibly strong friendships were formed and captured on screen.

Alex was intent on challenging and enhancing the conventional approach to prison documentary- and continued documenting the artist release back into society. Providing a rare insight into the unseen struggles and complications that Indigenous Australians face whilst attempting to obtain their freedom.

Once the film is released theatrically it will be used by educators as a tool to inspire and educate and to support Indigenous inmates to connect with their cultural  identity whilst showing that they can succeed on the outside.

Throughout Alex’s early 20’s  he created an extensive catalogue of short documentary films,  due to his desire to progress his craft as a filmmaker and his undying passion for story and the characters who inhabit them. Alex’s earlier works include The Busker, The High School Lawyer and of course his headline conquering insight into St Kilda’s harrowing and uncharted Gatwick hotel The Saints of St Kilda.

These works predominantly consisted of narrative driven documentary content and gained praise from the likes of The Guardian, CNN, Vice, The Huffington Post, ABC National and The Age.

Beyond the screen Alex hopes to one-day mentor youth within the justice system as a way of honouring those who have trusted and inspired him so heavily.
